SIMPLE AS THAT

The Briggs & Riley warranty, explained

What it covers, what it doesn't, and how to actually get a bag repaired. Briggs & Riley runs this warranty — we're an authorized dealer, so we can walk you through it, but the repair is theirs.

WHAT IT COVERS

Any damage. Including the airline's.

Briggs & Riley's Simple As That warranty covers damage to the bag regardless of what caused it, for the life of the bag, at no charge. That includes damage done by an airline — the single most common way a suitcase dies, and the thing almost every other lifetime warranty excludes.

The distinction matters more than it sounds. Most luggage warranties described as "lifetime" cover manufacturing defects: a bad seam, a zipper that failed out of the box. If a baggage handler snaps a wheel off, that is not a defect, and you are buying a new bag. Under Simple As That, that repair is covered.

No receipt required. No product registration. No proving how it happened.

THE HONEST PART

What it isn't.

It's a repair warranty, not a replacement guarantee. Briggs & Riley decides how to make the bag right — usually by repairing it and returning it to you. If a bag genuinely can't be repaired they'll address it, but you shouldn't buy expecting a new bag on demand.

It covers the bag, not what was inside it. Lost or damaged contents are between you and the airline or your travel insurance.

And it's Briggs & Riley's programme, not ours. We can't authorize a repair, waive a step, or promise you a turnaround time on their behalf — anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. What we can do is make sure you bought from an authorized dealer in the first place, which is what keeps the warranty valid at all.

MAKING A CLAIM

How to actually get it repaired.

Start at Briggs & Riley's own repair channel — they administer claims directly and will route the bag to the right repair centre. You'll describe the damage and they'll tell you where to send it.

If you'd rather have a person look at it first, bring the bag into the Mission Valley showroom. We'll tell you honestly whether it's a warranty repair, a quick fix we can sort out at the counter, or a bag that has genuinely reached the end. That conversation is free and takes about five minutes.

Warranty questions we get at the counter

Does it really cover airline damage?

Yes — that's the defining feature of the Simple As That warranty and the main reason people choose the brand. Damage caused in transit by an airline is covered like any other damage, free, for the life of the bag.

Do I need my receipt or to have registered the bag?

No. Briggs & Riley does not require proof of purchase or product registration to honour the warranty. Keeping your receipt is never a bad idea, but the warranty does not hinge on it.

I bought my bag somewhere else — or used. Am I covered?

The warranty follows the bag rather than the original buyer, so a second-hand Briggs is generally still covered. The exception worth knowing about is grey-market stock sold by unauthorized sellers, which is where warranty problems usually turn up. If you're unsure what you've got, bring it in and we'll look at it.

How long does a repair take?

That's Briggs & Riley's call and it varies with the repair and their queue, so we won't quote you a number we don't control. They'll give you a timeframe when you file the claim.

Is there any cost to me?

The repair itself is free of charge under the warranty. Shipping the bag to the repair centre is the part to ask them about when you file, since that's handled on their side.

Does the warranty apply to every Briggs & Riley line?

Simple As That applies across the Briggs & Riley range — Baseline, Sympatico, ZDX and HTA. More on how the lines differ →

Where should I buy so the warranty is safe?
